

Artistic Differences Theatre Company is seeking actors over the age of 16 for its 2009–2010
season. Auditions will be held by appointment only on Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 1 to
4pm and Monday, July 27, 2009 from 7 to 10pm at The Studio Theatre, 1028 R St,
Sacramento, CA 95814.

Artistic Differences seeks strong, versatile performers who sing, act and move extremely well.
Minorities are strongly encouraged to audition. Auditions are for the entire 2009-2010
season which includes 1940s Radio Hour, directed by Graham Green, and Reefer Madness,
directed by Christine Nicholson. All Artistic Differences' productions will be choreographed by
resident choreographer Gino Platina. We will also utilize the general auditions for any other
special events we have throughout the season, including Christmas Caroling for corporate
and private functions during the holiday season.
Actors should prepare:
One 32-bar standard musical theatre selection
One 32-bar contemporary musical theatre selection
One 1-minute contemporary monologue
The entire audition should last no longer than 3 minutes in length.
Auditioning actors should bring four headshots and résumés. Please arrive 15 minutes prior
to your scheduled appointment to fill out any necessary paperwork.
Callbacks for Artistic Differences' Christmas Carolers will be held on July 28th from 7 to
10pm. Callbacks for Reefer Madness will be held on July 29th from 6 to 10pm.
Callbacks for 1940s Radio Hour will be held on July 30th from 6 to 10pm.

Pops Bailey – 60+ doorman and former radio performer, some singing
Stanley – 20-25, studio gofer, non-singing
Lou Cohn – 35-45, balding stage manager, must dance, non-singing
Clifton A. Feddington – 45-55, station co-owner, radio host, must sing
Wally Fergusson – 17-20, delivery boy, hanger-on, must sing
Johnny Cantone – 35-45, star of Cavalcade, lush, talented, but sad, must sing well
B.J. Gibson – 18-23, fresh face talent, must sing and dance well

Character Breakdown for Reefer Madness
Jimmy Harper - A wholesome, innocent, high school teenager who runs into trouble after he
is lured into the dangerous world of reefer
Lecturer - a severe authority figure who warns the audience of the perils of Reefer Madness.
(Doubles as Goat-Man, Mr. Poppy, Irish Priest, Old Man, Radio Announcer, Ticket-Taker,
Policeman, FDR)
Mary Lane - Jimmy's sweetheart, a naïve, virginal teenage girl.
Jack Stone - The handsome and ruthless proprietor of the Reefer Den, a 30's gangster
movie-type. (Doubles as Jesus, George Washington)
Mae - An attractive, yet slightly haggard dame in her mid-30s, the hostess of the Reefer Den.
Ralph Wiley - a denizen of the Reefer Den, formally a fraternity man, his college days ended
long ago due to his reefer habit. (Doubles as Sally's Baby, Switch-Puller, Uncle Sam)
Sally - a sexy and seductive resident of the Reefer Den, she possesses the libidinous soul of
Mae West combined with the rat-a-tat moxie of vintage Barbara Stanwyck. (Doubles as Lady
Liberty)
Placard Girl - throughout the play she reinforces the warnings of the Lecturer by holding
large signs that clearly state the moral of what we've just seen. (Doubles as Five-and-Dime
Kid, Police Officer)
Ensemble - Mixed gender group to represent Reefer Zombies, Kids at the Five-and-Dime,
Jungle Orgy dancers, Angels, and patriotic background chorus in the Star-Spangled finale.
